123 Chinsurah: A police officer shot himself in the head with his service revolver at a hospital restroom in Chandernagore on Friday. He has been admitted to the ICU and is under ventilation. The police have started a probe.
Police said Himanshu Majhi works at the police line of Chandannagar Police Commissionerate and was supposed to get married on Monday. He was planning to take leave and go to his home town in Bankura. On Friday around 5 am, while on duty at a hospital, he reportedly shot himself with his gun.
The sound of gunfire startled patients and their families. A patient informed Majhi's colleague, and he and a few others took him to the ICU.
Chandernagore police commissioner Amit P Javalgi and other senior officers visited the hospital. Cops started questioning witnesses. Cops said it appeared to be a suicide attempt.
