• Kunal holds protest march with teaching job aspirants

  • 123 Kolkata: Trinamool Congress spokesperson Kunal Ghosh on Friday staged a demonstration along with job aspirants to protest the legal quagmire due to which employment of hundreds of teachers had been stalled. The candidates shouted slogans against Calcutta High Court.

The protesters planned to hold a stir at the HC but Ghosh and some aspiring teachers were stopped by the police at RR Avenue.

Ghosh said he was trying to voice the grievances of work education and physical education candidates of 2016 SLST, whose appointments were stuck due to cases filed by CPM MP Bikash Bhattacharya. He questioned the delay in hearings and said the court was acting in an "arbitrary manner".

The Trinamool spokesperson said the candidates were qualified and had no CBI case pending against them, so state govt had issued them appointments after reviewing the legal status. However, Bhattacharya's move to file a case had blocked their recruitment. Ghosh sought the intervention of the HC Chief Justice so the teachers could begin work immediately.

BJP's Rajya Sabha MP Samik Bhattacharya, however, said the case had been filed as supernumerary posts of teachers were created by state govt, leading to genuine meritorious candidates being deprived. He said the aim to march to HC by Ghosh was planned by Trinamool to confuse people. Bhattacharya said the case had been filed so that candidates get justice, and Trinamool was trying to mislead them.
