• Labour union leader found dead in Titagarh, locals stage protest

  • 123 Kolkata: There was tension in Palta after the bloodied body of INTTUC (Trinamool Congress-affiliated labour union) leader Hannan Gazi was recovered late on Friday night.

    Police said, Gazi had deep wounds on his head and multiple injuries on his body. His family alleged murder and lodged a complaint with Titagarh police station, demanding a thorough investigation. A group of locals staged an agitation, seeking the immediate arrest of those responsible.

    Sources said that around 1.20 am, local residents heard a loud noise. Upon stepping outside, they found Gazi lying in a pool of blood on the road. Officers from Titagarh police station were alerted and soon arrived to recover the body, which was sent for post-mortem.

    Sources revealed that Gazi was also in charge of the local auto union and had significant influence in the area.

    While police registered a murder case based on the complaint, they detained one person, reportedly an associate of Gazi, for questioning.
