12 Tamluk: Three people died, and one was injured when a car hit a stationary tanker from behind on Digha-Mecheda NH116B on Saturday morning. The driver — Sudip Maity of South Khodambari in Nandigram — and two passengers — Debashis Das and Kamala Pal of Erashal in Chandipur — died on the spot, while another passenger — Mamata Das of Mahishadal — has been admitted at Tamluk District Hospital with serious injuries.
Tamluk Police said at 5.45am, the car — travelling from Chandipur towards Mecheda — experienced a rear tyre burst and crashed against the gas tanker. Police said the group was travelling to Kolkata for medical purposes. Skid marks on the road indicated that the brakes failed to stop the car due to the poor condition of the tyres.
