Representative image JALPAIGURI: Three people from the same family were found dead in a forest quarter in the Madarihat range of Jaldapara wildlife division on Monday morning.
While Ravi Oraon (32) was found hanging from the ceiling of a room, the bodies of his mother, Bibi Lohar Oraon (52), and nephew, Vivek Oraon (13), were found lying on the floor of the adjacent room.
Prima facie, it is thought that Ravi killed the duo and then hanged himself. The Madarihat police have started an investigation.
The quarter belongs to Vinod Oraon, a working mahout at Jaldapara National Park. His family lived there while he stayed in another quarter inside the national park.
On Sunday, he came to visit his family and stayed overnight.
On Monday morning, he went to attend his work at Jaldapara's pilkhana. After a couple of hours, locals found that the members of his family, including his teenage son, were all dead in the quarter. Vinod's wife, however, was not in the house.
Alipurduar's Additional SP, Manabendra Das, said an inquiry was initiated. “The bodies have been sent for postmortem,” he said.
Vinod was at work when he learned about the tragedy over mobile. It is learnt that Ravi was upset over his unemployment.
