Kolkata: A middle-aged woman, Priyanka Mazumdar Baidya (28) of Sukchar near Khardah, was allegedly attacked inside Calcutta Medical College Hospital on Monday morning with a hammer by a female medical representative, Payal Chakraborty (31) who was allegedly having an extramarital affair with the former's husband, Sourav Baidya. Both Sourav and Chakraborty were arrested after a case was lodged at Bowbazar police station.
The victim alleged that she was assaulted by Chakraborty when she confronted the latter about the affair. The victim also alleged that her husband — who is also a medical representative — instigated the woman to assault her. According to police sources, Priyanka's husband had come to the hospital for work and she followed him. Cops have seized CCTV footage to check the actual chain of events. The woman was admitted to the hospital for treatment and was released later."I caught them (her husband and the woman) red-handed," said Priyanka.
Meanwhile, the incident has raised questions regarding alleged lapse in entry norms for MRs in the hospital. MRs are not allowed to enter the hospital before 2 pm, but in this case both these representatives managed to enter the hospital quite early in the day. Anjan Adhikari, the superintendent of CMCH said necessary steps would be taken to ensure rules were followed.
