Kolkata: A man, who repeatedly took a second-hand sedan car on test drives, allegedly stole the vehicle from a used-car garage at Duttabad on EM Bypass recently. The suspect, who had showed interest in purchasing the used car — in response to an advertisement on OLX— had allegdely made a duplicate key of the vehicle.
According to Arijit Saha, the owner of Ambika Motors, the suspect had contacted the garage on Feb 24. He allegedly spent nearly two hours checking the car thoroughly and also examined its documents. The suspect claimed that he was sending the details of the vehicle to his elder brother and expressed an intention to buy the car, if everything was in order.
The following day, he returned to the garage for another test drive. Later, he took the company's bank account details, claiming that he would make an online payment. He remained at the office until 8 pm and then left, saying there was an issue in online transaction. He had promised to return the next day.
When employees of the garage opened the office next morning, they found the car — which was parked in the open — to be missing. CCTV footage revealed that around 10.50 pm the previous night, the suspect drove the car away, Saha alleged in the complaint."We are hopeful of nabbing the culprit soon," cops said.
