Kolkata: Bengal BJP on Monday started a survey of voters in Kolkata, beginning with the Bhowanipore assembly area through a door-to-door campaign. The party has asked workers in each assembly constituency to reach every booth and identify fake and missing voters.
"The scrutiny process started after the revised electoral rolls was published by the Election Commission of India. Union home minister Amit Shah might come to Kolkata within a month. We are trying to complete the survey as much as possible before that," said a Bengal BJP functionary.
On Monday, BJP workers started a door-to-door campaign in booth number 18 under KMC ward 63. The area falls under the constituency from where CM Mamata Banerjee won the bypoll with a margin of around 59,000 votes.
"We will continue with the door-to-door campaign for the next few days. During scrutiny of nearly 200 voters, at least 10 names were found missing," BJP's state committee member and South Kolkata neta Naveen Mishra said. "There are thousands of fake voters in the entire constituency and we have given a list to the Election Commission," he added.
Indrajit Khatik, general secretary of South Kolkata district BJP, sent a message to party workers asking them to contact him for any discrepancy found in the voters' list. The South Kolkata unit of the party will also start scrutiny in areas like Rashbehari, Kasba, Behala East and Behala West constituencies. BJP will also start the check in Ballygunge and Kolkata Port constituencies soon.
