Kolkata: Calcutta High Court on Tuesday ordered a stay on the police investigation against actor-turned BJP neta Mithun Chakraborty based on an FIR accusing him of delivering a provocative speech at an event on Oct 27 last year. Justice Suvra Ghosh also ordered police not to take any "coercive step" against him.
Chakraborty, addressing a BJP membership drive at Salt Lake's Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre in the presence of Union home minister Amit Shah, had said: "In 2026, the masnad (throne) will be ours, and we will do everything to achieve this goal."
