12 Kolkata: The presence of a large team of policemen around the trouble-prone zones of Jadavpur and College Street, which have multiple exam venues, ensured a smooth start to the HS exams on Monday.
In close vicinity of Jadavpur University were Jadavpur Vidyapith, Jodhpur Park Boys, Jodhpur Park Girls, and AK Ghosh Memorial High School, where students turned up in large numbers to appear for the second big exams of their lives. "We feared troubles, and that's why we left home early. We were at Jadavpur Vidyapith, by 9 am. We did not face any obstruction, and my daughter could write the paper without any harassment," said Rimi Das, a resident of Garfa.
HS student Anju Tiwari, who also wrote the exam at the same centre, said she hired an auto to ensure she could take small lanes and bylanes from her Mukundapur home.
At College Street, cops stopped agitators from even shouting slogans using mikes when the exams were on at Hindu High School and Hare School. It was only after the exam got over at 1.15 pm that the agitators were allowed to organize a rally, and that too was shifted out of the main road by cops to allow HS students head home.
