• Cops take Prasun to Tangra crime scene

  • 12 Kolkata: Cops on Wednesday took Prasun Dey, the younger brother of the Tangra Dey family, to his Atal Sur Road residence to reconstruct the sequence of events that took place on Feb 17-18, when three people were found dead in the house and another three had a narrow escape in a car crash.

Stepping into his residence after a gap of two weeks — since he left the house in a car with his brother Pranay and nephew Pratip, after murdering his daughter Priyamvada, wife Romi, and sister-in-law Sudeshna — Prasun, who is currently in police custody, appeared calm.

The police spent 2.5 hours at the house, taking Prasun to every floor where he was asked to explain his actions beginning on the night of Feb 17 when Pranay mixed the medicines in payesh until Feb 18 post-midnight when he left in the car. He was taken to the garage area and told to explain how he reversed his car at a time when he himself was drugged. Prasun will be produced in court on March 6.

Back at Lalbazar, the police said they will not reveal their findings until elder brother Pranay is also taken to the spot. "We need to match the version of the two brothers. For this, we plan to take Pranay to this house once we arrest him after his recovery," said a joint commissioner, adding that the police verified the accuracy of Prasun's multiple — and sometimes conflicting — statements during the reconstruction. The help of forensic experts has been sought. The police, though, remained tight-lipped about whether the reconstruction of the crime was videographed.

While Prasun has been arrested, Pranoy and Pratip are still hospitalised. Pratip has reportedly told cops that his uncle attempted to kill him as well four times in 36 hours. During police interrogation, Prasun claimed that he smothered his daughter Priyamvada with a pillow while his wife Romi held her legs. Priyamvada was also fed payesh laced with sleeping pills. After her death, he killed his wife Romi and sister-in-law Sudeshna.
