Week after a 27-year-old woman Sutandra Chattopadhyay was killed after her car met with an accident, allegedly while trying to flee from inebriated men in the Panagarh area of in Paschim Bardhaman district, the mother of the deceased woman on Wednesday moved Calcutta High Court demanding a proper and thorough investigation into the death of her only child.
The counsel of Tanusree Chattopadhyay, Sutandra’s mother, mentioned the matter in the court of Justice Tirthankar Ghosh stating that the family would like a detailed investigation into the cause of the death of her daughter, whether it was eve-teasing or road rage and negligent driving.
Following this, the court granted permission for the matter to be filed.
Sutandra Chattopadhyay, a resident of Chandannagar and the head of an event management company, was killed in a car accident in Panagarh while travelling to Gaya with her colleagues on the intervening night of February 23 and February 24.
She was accompanied by three of her colleagues and the driver, who received minor injuries. The police had claimed that it was road rage and overtaking and denied the allegations of eve-teasing.
A case was registered at the Kanksa Police Station based on a written complaint submitted by one of Sutandra’s colleagues who was travelling with her that night. The police said there was no mention of eve-teasing in the said complaint.
The prime accused in the alleged eve-teasing and accident case, Bablu Yadav, was arrested on February 27 from Nigha area in Asansol. However, following the arrest of Yadav the mother of the deceased reportedly criticised the police for failing to arrest the others travelling in the white SUV on that night.
