  • 1234 Kolkata: With the cold-bearing northwesterly wind sweeping in uninterrupted into the city, both maximum and minimum temperatures were below normal on Thursday. The Met office expects a further dip by a slight margin on Friday before the mercury starts rising from Saturday again.

The maximum inched towards the 33-degree mark before it slipped to 31.8 degrees on Wednesday. But it plunged 3.5 degrees on Thursday when it stood at 28.8 degrees Celsius. The minimum also dipped below normal after a long spell when Alipore recorded 20.2 degrees Celsius, which was 0.8 notches below normal.

"We are getting strong northwesterly wind which has pushed the mercury down. It is likely to be on the rising trend from Saturday due to a change in wind pattern," said Sourish Bandyopadhyay, Met scientist at the Regional Meteorological Centre, Kolkata.
