123 Kolkata: A fresh case of ATM fraud has surfaced in Behala Sakherbazar. This follows three such incidents at Survey Park and Mukundapur last month. The cyber cell of Kolkata Police has been tasked with nabbing the accused.
Subrata Roy of Purba Barisha, lost Rs 38,500 in multiple transactions on Feb 23 after his card got stuck in an unguarded ATM near Behala Sakherbazar. The incident occurred around 10 am when he visited the ATM to withdraw Rs 1,000. After completing the transaction, his card got stuck in the machine. On seeing a phone number on the notice board with ‘ATM Engineer' written on it, Roy dialled it. The person who received the call gave instructions but the attempts failed. When Roy briefly stepped outside, his card disappeared from the machine. Soon, he got SMS alerts indicating unauthorized withdrawals from his account. The phone number used in the scam is registered in Bihar. tnn
