Amidst speculation that he has a cameo in the upcoming web series Khakee: The Bengal Chapter, former Indian cricketer Sourav Ganguly said he is promoting the series, but not acting in it.
Filmmaker Neeraj Pandey is all set to return with part 2 of the Khakee series, which will be streaming on Netflix from March 20. The first part of the series was Khakee: The Bihar Chapter.
“I have shot an endorsement for Netflix to promote the (series). I am not in (it),” Ganguly told The Indian Express in a text. Since he has never acted in a film, tele-serial or web series, the rumour had created a buzz among his fans on social media.
According to sources, he will be promoting the film through advertisements in a police officer’s costume. A picture of the former cricket star dressed as a police officer had gone viral on social media.
When asked by the media during a recent promotion of the series, Pandey was heard saying, “As far as Sourav is concerned… well, keep looking.”
Ganguly, after his cricketing career, played significant roles in the administration as Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president. He was also seen on television as the host of a popular show, Dadagiri Unlimited.
Sources said the shoot involving Ganguly took place in Baruipur and will come to limelight before the release of the web series for its promotion.
The plot revolves around a police officer in Kolkata in 2000 trying to curb crime syndicates and battle a political nexus. The cast includes Prosenjit Chatterjee, Jeet, Parambrata Chatterjee, Chitrangada Singh, and Saswata Chatterjee among others. The series is directed by Debatma Mondol and Tushar Kanti Roy.
Filmmaker Neeraj Pandey is known for his films like Baby, Special 26, and Special Ops among others.
