A 38-year-old cab driver who was allegedly beaten up by a group of unidentified persons in Bijoygarh, Kolkata, on Wednesday late evening died at a hospital on Saturday, police said. Police identified the deceased as Jayanta Sen.
On Wednesday evening, Sen had returned after duty and while parking his car in front of his house, it collided with a two-wheeler. A group of youths, who were allegedly inebriated at the time, gathered at the spot and allegedly beat up Sen.
Sen’s family members claimed that although he apologised to the youths and agreed to repair the two-wheeler, the youths continued beating him. He was later admitted to a private hospital in Jadavpur and died on Saturday morning, police said.
Sen’s family has filed a complaint against unidentified persons at Jadavpur police station and police filed an FIR on charges of “culpable homicide not amounting to murder”. A senior officer of Kolkata police said, “We are inspecting CCTV footage and trying to identify the persons involved.”
