123 Kolkata: Police on Sunday recorded the statements of state education minister Bratya Basu's driver, Rehan Molla, and two Jadavpur University students as part of the investigation into the March 1 campus clash. Basu was surrounded and injured by protesting students demanding union poll dates, while at least two students were also hurt as his car exited the campus.
Police are probing eight FIRs related to the incident, including one filed against Basu, his driver, and JU professor Om Prakash Mishra. The last FIR was registered on Thursday after Calcutta High Court directed authorities to treat JU first-year student Indranuj Roy's e-mail plaint as an FIR. The charges include attempted murder, outraging a woman's modesty and assault.
Earlier, cops registered seven FIRs, including two filed suo motu, prompting the HC to remark that the initial cases seemed "one-sided". The court has given cops time to ensure a thorough probe. On Saturday, statements were recorded from Mishra, interim VC Bhaskar Gupta and Roy, who was injured in the clash. The state may submit a report during Wednesday's HC hearing.
