12 Kolkata: Bidhannagar police have arrested the man who had stolen a second-hand car following test drives from a Salt Lake used-car garage last month.
Police said Jamir Ansari (21) had made a duplicate key and stole the vehicle from a used-car garage. When employees of Ambika Motors came to open the garage the next morning, they found the car missing, which was parked outside the shop.
"The man is an expert in duplicate key making and theft. He stole the car and drove it to Vadia village in Bihar and had hid the car near a relative's place before he returned to Kolkata and was looking for new customers to sell off the vehicle," said an officer.
Police said he was using a new number and had used that to put up an advertisement on an online marketplace with a photograph of the vehicle. Cops called him posing as a customer.
The police even got the phone numbers of other prospective buyers and used them to bait Ansari to come near EM Bypass-Kankurgachhi crossing where he was arrested last week.
During interrogation, he gave away the location of the car and cops brought it back to Kolkata on Sunday.
