  • 123 Kolkata: Over 50 lakh pilgrims from across the country converged at Furfura Sharif, a village at Jangipara under Serampore sub-division of Hooghly district, offering prayers and seeking blessings on the occasion of the three-day historic Isale Sawab Mehfil, which concluded on Sunday. The event preached the message of communal harmony, peace, and brotherhood across the nation.

The 134-year-old traditional mehfil is important this year as it falls in the holy month of Ramzan, according to Mohammad Nurul Islam, joint secretary of Furfura Islam Mission Kurany. The pilgrims paid homage to Sufi saint and social reformer Mohammad Abu Bakr Siddique, known as Pir Dada Huzur, who was born in the village on Apr 15, 1845. He founded the order of Furfura Sharif.

Elaborate arrangements were made for Sahari, Iftar, and Taraweeh prayers for the pilgrims.
