Nearly 20 shops were destroyed in a fire that broke out at Santoshpur Railway Station’s platform number 2 on Sunday, an official said.

Three fire engines soon reached the spot, and after a 90-minute operation, firefighters were able to contain the blaze.

The incident disrupted train services on the Sealdah-Budge Budge route for two hours. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
