An on-duty Kolkata Police constable, who was allegedly heavily inebriated at the time, collapsed outside the emergency department of the Calcutta Medical College on Saturday night, police sources said.

The incident occurred between 10 pm and 10:30 pm, when the constable, Arun Kumar Das, was assigned to manage security and crowd control near the department.

A video of the purported incident surfaced on social media.

Till late evening on Sunday, the Kolkata Police were yet to issue an official statement regarding potential disciplinary action against Das.

“We are verifying… if anyone is found at fault, action will be taken,” said an officer. According to sources, initially onlookers believed the constable had fallen ill, but later it was learnt that Das was drunk.
