123 Kolkata: Kolkata Police has made all arrangements to carry out the forensic examination of education minister Bratya Basu's car, which a section of Jadavpur University students allege hit and injured a JU first-year student on March 1.
Sources said the forensic examination will provide scientific leads on whether the JU student came under the car. The estimated speed of the car will also be scrutinised after consulting the manufacturers and comparing the multiple video footages available.
A preliminary probe was conducted on Monday with experts examining the car in this regard. A detailed probe is likely soon. Investigators said this examination will also ascertain the level of damage inflicted on the car on that day when protesters tried to vandalise the car by breaking the front mirror. "We need to ascertain how the minister's car was vandalised, too," said an officer.
Cops also questioned a number of students present at the scene of the protest that day, several of whom were called for a second round of questioning. Cops have already recorded the statements of education minister Bratya Basu's driver, Rehan Molla, and two JU students.
Basu was surrounded and injured by protesting students demanding union poll dates, while at least two students were also hurt as his car exited the campus.
