  • 123 Kolkata: Kolkata Police recorded a fresh complaint regarding the new graffiti at Jadavpur University. Cops remained tight-lipped about whether they received a complaint from either JU students or authorities or if action is being taken suo motu.

Cops said this will be the second time that they will be lodging a complaint on the ‘Azad Kashmir' slogan, the first time being during the RG Kar protests when words were scribbled on the main road outside JU and even on the campus.

Cops will also be taking legal action following a separate complaint of alleged disrespect shown towards the National Flag by a JU student. Cops are in consultation with their legal cell to ascertain if they need to lodge a separate FIR or add specific sections to the seven FIRs — barring that against education minister Bratya Basu and others — depending on the serious nature of the accusations.

The slogan can be noticed near gate 3. Intense political tension has arisen among student bodies, with each accusing the other of creating chaos. Sources said these slogans might be old but they have resurfaced in current political context. The protesting students, as well as members of JUTA, claimed that the poster was old and has no relation to the present round of protests.
