Kolkata: Police arrested a 30-year-old man for allegedly engaging in sexual relations with a young woman with a false promise of marriage. Police said he met the woman at a hotel off EM Bypass on multiple occasions.
Rahul Basu, a resident of Commint Park under Panchasayar police station, was apprehended from his residence on Tuesday evening, based on the complaint lodged by the survivor.
According to the FIR lodged at the Survey Park women police station on March 7, the accused and the complainant met on Facebook. The complainant alleged that Basu persuaded her into physical relations by promising her marriage. The incidents reportedly occurred multiple times between Oct 20, 2024 and Feb 9 this year at a popular guest house located near Peerless Hospital.
The case was registered under sections 318(4), 69, and 64 of the BNS Act pertaining to cheating, sexual intercourse using deceitful means, and rape at the Survey Park police station. Cops have applied for court permission to record the confidential statement of the survivor before the magistrate. Police said the accused denied any wrongdoing.
