Kolkata: Trinamool Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee has called a virtual meeting on Saturday, mandating attendance of all state committee leaders, MPs, MLAs and local representatives. The meeting aims to discuss ways and means, and the status report of TMC's approach, to detect voter list irregularities in Bengal ahead of the 2026 assembly polls.
"The meeting will focus on voter list scrutiny that our CM Mamata Banerjee rightly alerted us and the entire country about in a public meeting. The organisational meeting will focus on the issue," TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said.
Trinamool state president Subrata Bakshi will be present at the meeting, which will start at 4pm. Sources said Abhishek will connect with everyone through a virtual meeting platform.
He is expected to give instructions to all representatives and office-bearers to focus on the 2026 target without wasting time.
"Trinamool has particularly increased its vigilance on the voter list. Scrutiny is ongoing in various districts. Abhishek Banerjee's speech will include specific instructions regarding the search for fake voters and monitoring the voter list," said a senior TMC functionary.
On Thursday, a trial run of the meeting was conducted where a link was sent to various functionaries, and they were asked to join at the same time to check the seamless communication system.
On Feb 27, a meeting of the extended workers' conference of Trinamool was held at Netaji Indoor Stadium, where CM Banerjee alleged that ghost voters were being added to the voter list and formed a scrutiny committee at the state level to address this issue. This committee included Bakshi, Aroop Biswas, Firhad Hakim and Abhishek. However, Abhishek did not attend the first meeting of the committee at Trinamool Bhavan.
