12 Kolkata: Speaker Biman Banerjee on Thursday asked BJP MLA Hiranmoy Chatterjee to exercise caution while making statements in the Bengal assembly.
During the budget discussion on Thursday, Banerjee cautioned him for an earlier comment that an award was "purchased" by the state govt. Minister Chandrima Bhattacharya had moved a breach of privilege notice against him. Banerjee, however, opted for leniency and advised Chatterjee to exercise greater caution and restraint in his statements. He said that members of the legislature needed to avoid making unfounded allegations.
Chatterjee, however, later told reporters: "The state govt has accepted that Rs 11.2 lakh was paid in March 2022. He further claimed that he had not been cautioned for the comment but for a procedural lapse.
