• No E-W closure for tests likely this month

  • Kolkata: East-West Metro closures are unlikely this month.

The Paris-based Independent Safety Assessor (ISA), Certifier, which serves as the third-party safety appraiser worldwide, is currently examining the outcomes of the recently executed signalling tests in the Esplanade-Sealdah section. Services on the two functional stretches may be shut only if deficiencies are detected in the ISA's conclusive safety analysis, sources indicated. Otherwise, one or two brief closures will be required — but only after Commission of Railway Safety (CRS) inspects the upcoming 2.6-km section.

"The closure will be needed for permanent upgradation of automatic signalling software in the entire 16.6-km corridor.

After the CRS inspection, all three sections will be integrated with the upgraded CBTC system," an official said.
