  • A student from Jogesh Chandra Law College moved the Calcutta High Court on Wednesday seeking security for all students, alleging that outsiders are entering the campus, forcefully applying colours and throwing water on students, and the police are not taking any complaints.

The petitioner, in the court of Justice Biswajit Basu, sought security within the college campus, installation of CCTV cameras and preventing outsiders from entering the college.

The High Court has allowed the matter to be filed and is likely to hear it on Thursday.

Last month, the Calcutta High Court had directed the police authorities to provide security for Saraswati Puja festivities to be held at Jogesh Chandra Chaudhuri Law College in Kolkata.

Justice Jay Sengupta had directed that the preparations be overseen by a commissioner-level officer and that no outsiders, including those with pending complaints, be allowed to enter the campus.

Meanwhile, the High Court had held that separate puja be conducted for the Day College and Law College departments and the entire event be filmed and instructed the Charu Market police station to dismantle an illegal puja pandal set up inside the Day College premises and document the process.

The decision came after students alleged that an outsider Mohammed Shabbir Ali attempted to prevent the Saraswati Puja celebrations.
