KALYANI: A father assaulted his four-year-old daughter by striking her on the ground before throwing her into a river following a domestic dispute in Nadia on Friday evening. Police have arrested the man and retrieved the child's body from the river at Mayakol, Nadhia within Dhubulia police station jurisdiction.
Reports indicate ongoing domestic discord between Buddha Ghosh and his wife, allegedly stemming from his wife's extramarital relationship.
Upon returning home on Friday evening, Buddha was informed by his mother that his wife had gone to her father's residence in Samudragarh, Burdwan. He then told his four-year-old daughter to prepare for a visit to her maternal uncle's house.
Local residents report that he took the girl outside, struck her on the ground causing severe head trauma, and subsequently threw her from a bridge into the Jalangi river.
When questioned about the girl's whereabouts, he claimed to have left her at her maternal uncle's home. However, it was discovered that they never arrived there.
During questioning by locals, Buddha provided inconsistent statements.
Dhubulia police intervened, and under interrogation, he admitted to throwing his daughter into the river. Following his arrest, the child's body was recovered from the river with assistance from police and Dhubulia 2 Gram Panchayat Upa Pradhan Biswajit Ghosh.
