123 Kolkata: Bengal's oldest tiger has died at the Jharkhali rescue centre in the Sundarbans on Saturday.
Aged 21, the male tiger, according to a senior forest official, was rescued in the Sundarbans and initially sent to Alipore zoo for treatment. "In 2014, it was brought to the rescue centre," said an official.
Nisha Goswami, DFO, South 24 Parganas forest division, said: "The tiger named Soham died at Wild Animal Park around 3.15 pm on Saturday. We are waiting for a detailed report ."
State's head of forest force Debal Roy confirmed that it was state's oldest tiger. Sources said, it seems the tiger has died of age-related ailments. tnn
