A domestic help at the house of former Indian football captain the late Pradip Kumar Banerjee was allegedly murdered at his house in Salt Lake City here late on Friday, the police said.
The police on Saturday arrested the driver of the family of the legendary footballer popularly known as ‘PK’. The police have collected the weapon used for the crime and other evidence.
The deceased identified as Gopinath Muhuri suffered multiple injuries after the driver of the house, Barun Ghosh, attacked him with a sharp weapon following an argument.
The police said that Ghosh had accused Muhuri of theft after PK’s younger daughter’s cash was found missing on Friday. However, Muhuri had denied the allegations.
Muhuri was fatally attacked when all servants and drivers of the house were having a round of drink. Though he was rushed to hospital, the doctors declared him dead.
A senior officer of Bidhannagar police commissionerate said, “Ghosh murdered Muhuri. We collected sufficient evidences. But, we are also investigating the cause of the murder, whether it was only that day’s tension or any other cause”.
Pradip Kumar Banerjee died in March 2020. PK’s two daughters generally stay at his house in Salt Lake, the police said.
