12345 Kolkata: Calcutta University has ranked 22nd, scoring between 751 and 760, in QS World Rankings in 2025. While JU has ranked 21st, Vellore Institute of Technology stood at 23rd position. CU's ranking improved from last year's when it scored between 801 and 850.
Depts like arts and humanities, natural science, agriculture and forestry, biological sciences and chemistry saw notable achievements. The arts and humanities scored between 451 and 500. In natural sciences, CU ranked between 501 and 550. In chemistry, it scored between 401 and 450. The agriculture and forestry dept scored between 351 and 400, and in biological sciences, CU scored between 601 and 650.
Interim VC Santa Datta, said, "It's a proud moment for us. We faced many challenges — from funds crunch to staff shortage. We secured the 31st position among all the universities in southern Asia and ranked 22nd amongst all Indian varsities."
