Won’t let even an inch be encroached: Hakim in assembly

Kolkata: State govt would not allow "even an inch" of illegal encroachment of land, said urban development and municipal affairs minister Firhad Hakim in assembly on Monday. Responding to a question from BJP's Sankar Ghosh, Hakim said illegal encroachers would be put behind bars. Pointing out that CM Mamata Banerjee had already made it clear that the state had zero tolerance towards illegal encroachment, Hakim said: "We will not allow anyone to encroach even an inch of land. They will be evicted."
Ghosh had alleged that illegal constructions were coming up on govt land and were being used for commercial purposes. Hakim said that state govt had a process to auction land and it also needed sanction of the cabinet. No land can be occupied without this, Hakim asserted.
