Kolkata: Following on its plan for better illumination in its area, the BMC is set to install high-mast street lights at four places in Salt Lake and LED lights in Duttabad and Baguiati.
The civic body, at this fiscal's budget, allocated Rs 18.5 crore for street lights and related infrastructure. What will start in four spots of Salt Lake, Duttabad and Baguiati will be extended to all the 41 wards and BMC plans to procure funds under Green Cities Mission.
Inside Salt Lake, BMC will set up 12.5m-high high-mast lights near Hyatt Regency, at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Island, IA Park and near Sukantanagar at an estimated cost of Rs 13.3 lakh. "The aim is to provide brighter light," said an official. Fifteen-Watt LED street lights will be installed in Ward 38, which covers Duttabad, at Rs 2.5 lakh. "Most street lights in Duttabad are the old sodium vapour ones. The ward committee had earlier proposed to cover most of Duttabad with LED lights," said a civic official. In Baguiati, the civic body will install 36-watt LED street lights at around Rs 6 lakh.
