123 Kolkata: A day after allegations reached KMC headquarters that some slum residents in Kasba were suffering from water crisis due to the snapping of connections, municipal commissioner Dhaval Jain on Tuesday issued a circular, making it clear that the order for disconnection of supply lines should come only from the director-general's (water supply) office.
Before issuing it, he spoke to mayor Firhad Hakim, who was reportedly unhappy over the incident.
"In case of disconnection of any water supply connection in KMC, permission from DG (water supply) is mandatory," the circular states. According to a KMC official, Hakim was upset with the disconnection of supply, keeping the DG's office in the dark. "Any policy decision regarding the disconnection of supply to a building or cluster of buildings can only be taken when there is a stamp of approval from the mayor or commissioner's office. The commissioner has vested his power in the DG," said the official.
