  • Kolkata: Bengal has agreed to rename health and wellness centres under National Health Mission as Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, Union MoS for health and family welfare Prataprao Jadhav said in Rajya Sabha on Tuesday.

Answering a question from BJP MP Samik Bhattacharya, Jadhav said the state govt conveyed the decision on Jan 18.

"Through a letter dated Jan 18, 2025, the govt of West Bengal informed of the decision to rename health and wellness centres across the state," he said. According to NHM data, there are 10,652 health and wellness centres in Bengal under the scheme.

Jadhav said the 16th common review was done in 2024, and central teams had visited Malda and North 24 Parganas to assess the facilities. The teams also conducted beneficiary interaction and had discussions with healthcare staff.

"The state govt has been changing names of centrally sponsored schemes. But they did not participate in Ayushman Bharat. Despite that, they changed the names of health and wellness centres to Suswasthya Kendras," Bhattacharya said.
