Kolkata: Lifting the stay order on the recruitment of civil judges, who qualified for West Bengal Judicial Services Exam 2022, the Calcutta High Court on Tuesday approved the appointment of 29 judges to the state's lower court.
Justice Arindam Mukherjee confirmed the validity of the Public Service Commission list. A regular and a provisional lists are published for judge appointments. Regular list candidates are appointed directly and provisional list ones are prioritised for vacancies. But provisional list candidates had urged the HC for appointments based on a single list. A case was also filed, alleging improper application of the reservation policy.
Pointing at an SC ruling, Justice Mukherjee said there was no obstacle to publishing two lists. The interim stay on the appointments was lifted, and it was said the process should be held using both lists.
