12 Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court on Thursday allowed the filing of a PIL challenging the state's decision to start a fresh survey for identification of Other Backward Classes (OBC).
Advocate Bikram Banerjee informed a division bench of Chief Justice TS Sivagnanam and Justice Chaitali Chatterjee (Das) that the state had submitted about this before the Supreme Court and no stay had been granted.
The Chief Justice granted leave to file the case.
Bengal govt has informed the apex court of completing the exercise within three months. Senior advocate Kapil Sibal had submitted this before a two-judge bench headed by Justice BR Gavai, which is hearing the state's appeal challenging Calcutta HC's May 2024 judgment quashing the decision to classify 77 communities.
