• Don’t obstruct director’s work, HC tells technicians

  • Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court on Thursday directed the Federation of Cine Technicians and Workers Eastern India not to obstruct film director Bidula Bhattacharjee's usual course of business. The matter will be next heard on April 3.

    Bhattacharjee's counsel submitted that she and "similarly placed members of the Director Association of Eastern India" were not being allowed to perform their work independently. A complaint was lodged before the respondent authorities in Jan.

    The same is alleged to be kept pending. The state was directed to produce written instructions on the next date of hearing.

    "As the petitioner contends she has been practically restrained from performing her work, which is infringing her right to life and livelihood and her right to carry on business, trade, the respondent is directed not to obstruct the petitioner in her usual course of business," Justice Amrita Sinha said.
