KHARAGPUR: Former BJP national vice-president Dilip Ghosh lost his cool in the face of a local agitation during a road inauguration event in Kharagpur on Friday morning.
Ghosh, known for his controversial statements, suddenly snapped at the protesters, saying that "no one's father paid for the road".
Ghosh was at ward No. 6 to inaugurate the newly constructed concrete road. Suddenly, a group of women started protesting, questioning his absence during his tenure as an MP. Ghosh was an MP from Midnapore from 2019-2024.
"Councillor Pradip Sarkar built the new road and now you have come to visit this area. Where were you during your tenure? We didn't see you here during that period," said the protesting women. They also tried to remove the placards with Ghosh's name on them.
Ghosh said: "I gave money from MPLAD fund for this work. No one's father gave the money. Don't try to be oversmart. You can go and ask the local councillor."
Despite his foul language, Ghosh remained unapologetic. Later, the women sat in front of his car and started to agitate.
"They should go to the councillor and ask the reason for the delay in the construction when I sanctioned the amount long ago. These are the beneficiaries who are ready to bark for Rs 500 dole," Ghosh said. "The road was funded by me, and there is no reason why they should agitate. I am not apologetic about raising the father's name," he said.
"He threatened us. Is this what one expects from a former MP? We referred to him as Sir initially," one of the protesting women said. Police from Kharagpur town reached the spot soon and Ghosh left the area.
