123 Siliguri: A 53-year-old man died, and 10 others were injured when the vehicle they were travelling in fell into a gorge at Ghayabari, about 15 km from Mirik, on Friday. The deceased was Lakpa Tamang Sherpa of Simana Sukhia.
The injured, all residents of Sukhia, were rushed to Sukna block Primary Health Centre and later shifted to North Bengal Medical College & Hospital (NBMCH). The driver initially fled the scene but was later found unconscious in a jungle.
Locals said the vehicle, which was travelling from Siliguri to Sukhia, lost control and fell into the gorge due to dense fog.
Sukna BMOH Chitralekha Sardar said all the injured were in critical condition.
