  • Kharagpur: An unapologetic Dilip Ghosh on Saturday said he didn't need a party for being himself. The former MP, who sparked a controversy on Friday by verbally attacking protesting women, said on Saturday that he would not change his behaviour. Speaking of the protesters, the BJP veteran said, "I will enter homes and beat them. If needed, I will drag them out of their homes and beat them on the streets."

Asked if BJP might take disciplinary action against him for his comments, the neta roared: "Dilip Ghosh doesn't need a party."

On Friday, Ghosh had gone to inaugurate a road in ward 6 of Kharagpur Municipality, where women protested against him. They questioned why the former MP was inaugurating the road, alleging that he was not seen in the area during his tenure. In his usual manner, Ghosh had answered: "I funded it. It's not anyone's father's money." When a woman objected this, asking why he was bringing up her father, Ghosh had retorted, "I will bring up fourteen generations." As the commotion grew, Ghosh had said: "Don't shout, or I will choke you." Following this, TMC said that if Ghosh did not apologise, the party would hold protests wherever he went.

Sipping tea at his house on Saturday, Ghosh told reporters he had not made any remarks in anger. "If anyone behaves rudely, regardless of their party, I will drag them out of their homes and thrash them. No matter how big a neta one is... Dilip Ghosh doesn't need a father."

Claiming that the road was built from his MPLADS funds, Ghosh said the local councillor, Pradip Sarkar, had done nothing. "While he was an MLA, he did nothing. Now he claims to have built the road even though the board displays my name. He hasn't even built a drain!"

Following Ghosh's comments on Saturday, Trinamool workers gathered in front of his Kharagpur residence, seeking a public apology. Soon, BJP workers arrived, leading to a tense situation. Ghosh, however, was not at his bungalow at the time.

Reacting to the entire matter, Sarkar said: "Trinamool is not wearing bangles. Dilip Ghosh should think twice before saying anything." Local BJP leadership has questioned the "bangle" comment.
