Kolkata: Mayor Firhad Hakim on Saturday said efforts were underway to clear pending wages of the workers engaged under the 100-day wage scheme in the city within the next three days.
Speaking at the KMC House, CPM councillor Nandita Roy raised a question to know when thousands of 100-day workers would receive their dues, pending since Jan.
According to Roy, these workers, who form the backbone of the city's cleanliness drive, have been facing neglect and apathy. "It has become extremely difficult for the workers who are working under the 100-day wage scheme to run their families. They have not received wages for the past three months," said Roy.
According to a KMC SWM department source, the department needs the support of these workers for the collection of waste from households. "If the workers don't join their duties, it will be difficult for us to maintain cleanliness in the neighbourhoods," said a civic official.
