12 Kolkata: Coinciding with the Monday RG Kar Medical College rape and murder hearing in Calcutta High Court, healthcare workers marched to the CGO complex in Salt Lake, demanding a supplementary chargesheet and a fast and transparent investigation into the incident.
Doctors and nurses from three organisations, the Medical Service Centre, Service Doctors' Forum, and Nurses Unity, marched to the state's CBI headquarters in Salt Lake, expressing their concerns regarding the protracted delay in delivering justice for Abhaya.
They also submitted their four-point demands: immediate supplementary chargesheet, explanation for the delay in filing charges against the accused, along with a timeline for further legal proceedings, accountability for any officials responsible for negligence or obstruction in the investigation process, and immediate action against all implicated individuals based on the available forensic and investigative evidence.
"The CBI has not yet been able to provide the supplementary charge sheet. We believe this is causing the judicial process to stall," said physician Biplab Chandra, the secretary of the West Bengal State Committee of the Medical Service Center. —Sumati Yengkhom
