  • Kolkata: A young woman was pinned to the ground and assaulted with brick by a man and his wife for allegedly complaining to the police about him trying to smash her car windscreen following a dispute over parking at Shantinagar near Chingrihata last week.

The attack, which took place on March 18 in Shantinagar, was captured in a disturbing footage, showing the woman being dragged by her hair, kicked, and struck with a brick.

The prime accused, Tinku Mandal, a local Trinamool functionary, is still at large while his wife was arrested but granted bail. "So many days have passed, but the man hasn't been arrested yet, and we fear they may attack us again," the woman said.

The victim had parked her car near a club on March 17. A group of men objected and among them, she saw Mandal trying to damage her car when she dialled 100. Cops came and picked up Mandal but later released him with a warning. The woman was allegedly called to the club the next morning, but as they came out of their home, Mandal and his wife assaulted her. Councillor Chameli Naskar said, "Law will take its own course. Let's not drag the party into it." A police officer said sections of attempt to murder, grievous hurt, criminal intimidation, and wrongful restraint were applied.

Kolkata: A young woman was pinned to the ground and assaulted with brick by a man and his wife for allegedly complaining to the police about him trying to smash her car windscreen following a dispute over parking at Shantinagar near Chingrihata last week.

The attack, which took place on March 18 in Shantinagar, was captured in a disturbing footage, showing the woman being dragged by her hair, kicked, and struck with a brick.

The prime accused, Tinku Mandal, a local Trinamool Congress functionary, is still at large while his wife was arrested but granted bail a day after the attack. "So many days have passed, but the man hasn't been arrested yet, and we fear they may attack us again," the woman told reporters on Tuesday.

The victim, originally from Andul and residing at a rented home in Shantinagar, had parked her car near a local club on March 17. A group of men objected to the parking, and among them, she saw Mandal trying to damage her car with a brick when she dialled 100. Cops came quickly and picked up Mandal and another man but later released them with a warning.

The woman and her friend were allegedly called to the club the next morning, but as they came out of their home, Mandal and his wife started beating them. A flat owner recorded a video of the assault from an upper floor.

Chameli Naskar, the local councillor, distanced herself from Mandal and said, "Law will take its own course. Let's not drag the party into it." A police officer said sections of attempt to murder, grievous hurt, criminal intimidation, and wrongful restraint were applied and that they had started a manhunt for Mandal.
