  • 123 Kolkata: Calcutta High Court on Wednesday directed the state to submit a report by Friday 4.30pm on the alleged attack on the cars of state leader of opposition Suvendu Adhikari and Siliguri MLA Shankar Ghosh at Baruipur last week.

Counsel for the petitioners Bansuri Swaraj submitted that BJP was holding a peaceful rally after getting police permission on March 19. "While the peaceful rally was on, the state allowed a crowd of around 800 hooligans who came and attacked the cars in presence of the police. There is an absolute collusion between the state, the police and the hooligans," Swaraj submitted.

Senior state counsel Sirsanya Bandyopadhyay submitted that police conducted an inquiry but didn't find any "contact" between protesters with black flags and persons who allegedly attacked the car.

Justice Tirthankar Ghosh, after taking note of the pen drive attached to the judge's copy, the injury report and the medical report, asked the state counsel to submit a report.

BJP moved a second petition seeking the court's permission to hold a sit-in demonstration outside the Baruipur SP's office from 12 noon to 6pm on Thursday. Counsel for the petitioner submitted that police had earlier given approval for the demonstration but later refused.

Justice Ghosh granted permission but changed the timing to 2pm-5pm with 1,000 participants. He directed the organisers to keep space for ingress and egress of people. The HC directed the SP to make adequate police arrangements, including the presence of cops in plain clothes and RAF.
