  • 123 Baruipur: Armed with a go-ahead from Calcutta High Court, Bengal BJP held a protest meeting at Baruipur on Thursday and claimed that a "political change is imminent in West Bengal". State leader of opposition Suvendu Adhikari said "life will come full circle" in the state and there will be a "change in Bengal soon".

Addressing a rally at Baruipur near the police superintendent's office, Adhikari referred to political changes across India. "People used to think that the govt in UP would not change. In Bihar, Lalu Yadav's regime seemed to have no end. But it changed suddenly. It will happen here too," he said.

"BJP is governing 21 states now. PM Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah are spearheading BJP's onward march across the country. The world is round, and life will come full circle in Bengal," he said.

Referring to CPM netas like Lakshman Seth and Sushanta Ghosh, who thought they were "invincible", Adhikari said: "Seth threatened to break my legs if I tried to enter Haldia. He cannot be found today. Ghosh has become traceless."

Referring to attacks since the 2021 assembly polls, Adhikari said 57 BJP workers were killed and at least 9 of them were from South 24 Parganas. "There are 61 cases registered by CBI in post-poll violence. There is no democracy in Bengal. Police remained mute spectators following orders from top officials," he said.

Gautam Das, Trinamool's block president (Baruipur), said they did not protest as BJP was agitating against police. "Last time, they attacked the MLA and Vidhan Sabha speaker Biman Banerjee, and we had to protest against that. We believe in the right of a political party to protest. However, Adhikari on Thursday used words that should be condemned," Das said.
