  • 12 Kolkata: Calcutta High Court on Thursday dismissed a PIL seeking that Central Armed Police Force be deployed for Contai Co-operative Agricultural Rural Development Bank polls, advising the petitioners to file an appeal before the HC single bench.

Elections for the management committee will be held on Saturday. There are approximately 58,000 voters.

The matter was heard by Chief Justice TS Sivagnanam and Justice Chaitali Chatterjee (Das). The maintainability of the PIL was questioned and it was observed that the Supreme Court's decision to deploy central forces for voting in another cooperative bank was not applicable here.

It was further pointed out that a case related to the same election was pending before Justice Kausik Chanda, who had ordered for it to be held within a month. Justice Chanda had appointed the bank's CEO as a special officer on March 3.
