Pandabeshwar: A 21-year-old youth was found hanging in a house in Ruidas Para on Thursday morning. Locals mounted a protest after it came to light that cops had reportedly removed the body of Pranab Bauri alias Pallab without informing his family. Bauri a guest house employee, left his home for work on Wednesday night and did not return. Five cops, including DCP (East) Abhishek Gupta, were injured after the mob pelted stones at police.
According to local sources, Bauri was in a relationship with a married woman from Ruidas Para. On Wednesday, he visited the woman at her house but was discovered by her husband Sanjoy. The latter allegedly locked Bauri in a room overnight. In the morning, Bauri was found hanging.
When locals came to know his body had been removed, they attacked cops, and vandalised several houses, shops, bicycles, and bikes. Cops deployed additional forces from nearby police stations and had to resort to lathi-charge to bring the situation under control.
The victim's father, Bhairav Bauri, filed a complaint at Pandabeshwar police station against Sanjoy, his wife, and other family members, alleging premeditated murder. "We have registered a case based on the father's complaint and an investigation is underway. Twelve people have been detained so far," ADCP Gupta told TOI.
He added that the body was immediately shifted to the hospital according to standard procedure.
The situation remains tense in the area as police continue their investigation.
