  • Kolkata: Two 14-year-old cousins, both girls, mysteriously disappeared from north Kolkata's Goabagan area while reportedly heading to a nearby food shop on Wednesday night, prompting a police investigation.

Locals on Sahitya Parishad Street near Bidhan Sarani reported seeing the eighth-grade students leaving their residence together.

After an hour passed without them returning, concerned family members visited the food shop and discovered that the girls never arrived. Following unsuccessful attempts to locate them through relatives and friends, their fathers filed a formal complaint at Burtola police station.

Cops are analysing CCTV footage from the surrounding area and checking the teenagers' phone records for potential leads. While the family suspects kidnapping, cops indicate no evidence of abduction was found at the scene, and no suspicious vehicle or individual were reported in the area.

The detective department at Lalbazar has been notified of the case.

The disappearance has sparked concern throughout the north Kolkata community, particularly given the proximity of the food shop to the girls' residence. Police are pursuing multiple angles in their investigation.

They have urged anyone with information to come forward while maintaining careful protocol regarding the involvement of minors in the investigation.
